Random House Trade and GLB Hardcover Editions

Publisher: Random House
First Printed: 1972
Cover Art by Ed Vebell
Internal Illustrations by Ed Vebell

Trade Edition First Printing Identification:
-- Back cover list to The Mystery of the Nervous Lion

Additional Trade Edition First Printing Characteristics:
-- Matte cover finish
-- Blue graveyard/spiderweb endpapers
-- No inner list

Notes:
-- The last printing of the Trade Edition sported the new glossy cover finish. This printing had plain white endpapers and listed to The Mystery of the Headless Horse on the back cover.
-- Interestingly, a circa 1975 Trade Edition printing listing to The Mystery of Monster Mountain on the back cover contains white endpapers. This is likely due to partial conversion: stock of covers listing to Monster Mountain was still available (and used) after the switch to white endpapers.

-- The GLB Edition of Singing Serpent was part of the Random House Reading Program.
-- Late printings of the GLB Edition used Robert Adragna's cover art as shown below.

First Printed: circa 1982

Random House First Paperback Edition

Common Name: Hitchcock Cover

Notes:
-- All of the paperback titles published in 1981 (with 1981 printings) had an insertion placed inside the front or back cover consisting of a Mystery Quiz with a removable bookmark. With Singing Serpent, an interesting anomaly exists in that First Printings can be found without the bookmark; in fact, this appears to be the more common variant.
